"There is an objective reality out there, but we view it through the spectacles of our beliefs, attitudes and values." - David G. Myers
Generally in our world we are all in reaction to our environment. For example, someone says or does something we don't like for some reason and we then make them wrong and have an adverse reaction to them or the situation. Our basic attitude is "you did this to me" or "this is happening to me" and we place the blame for our reality on someone or something outside of ourselves, and in so doing, we are essentially giving our power over to that person or thing outside of ourselves and are making ourselves the victim. This is not the path to empowerment or peace.
It is a basic spiritual truth held in many spiritual traditions - Shamanism, Buddhism, metaphysics and Vedanta to name a few, that we are the creators of our own reality. Everything that we perceive outside of us is actually a projection of our inner world. What this means is all of our world - the entire material reality that we take so seriously and think is so solid, is actually all an illusion. This illusion that we experience is filtered through all of our belief systems, fears, interpretations, opinions, and karma, both personally and collectively. Once we realize this, and if we are willing to work with this fact, we can change our entire reality - we are in charge of what happens in our world. This is a very empowering viewpoint, removing the story of victim and perpetrator and helps us to realize that we are the sculptor of our own lives.
The next time something happens to you that is upsetting, simply ask yourself: what is this person or situation showing me about myself - what am I not seeing that I need to address within myself? Nothing in our world happens TO us - we create our world - if you don't like what you see in your experience, you must change your inner world, which is the cause, for attempting to change the external world is trying to change the effect - like being angry at the mirror for showing your reflection in a particular way. You must look within yourself for the answers with openness and compassion if you want your life circumstances to transform.Ask yourself: what inside me needs to change for me to be happy? You have the power and the tools within you to create the life you desire. Step into your power as the powerful creator spirit that you are!
